It looks like 2007 is the Year of Jason Bourne, all over again. Last weekend, The Bourne Utimatum grossed $70 million, becoming the highest August opening of all time. It would not be a surprise to find out that this movie has hit $100 million easy, by now. However, none of that money has come from me because I have yet to see The Bourne Ultimatum. It seems that the public loves this movie franchise, run by Universal Pictures. I am not surprised, because both “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy” rocked. The later Bourne movies have been able to escape the mediocrity that plagues many Hollywood sequels. That is refreshing because you never know how good a sequel is really going to be and it’s easy to be disappointed. Look at the Fast and The Furious 2. I still do not know what the point was for making that movie. One studio executive noted that “Matt Damon is the new James Bond”. She may not be far off point.

Matt Damon is an awesome actor and a favorite among tons of movie fans. I am definitely going to have to see The Bourne Ultimatum very soon. If only the short film screening wasn’t taking up my time, I would be free to watch some cool Hollywood flicks. Matt Damon seems to be doing well with sequels right now, with the success of both his Bourne franchise and the Ocean’s Eleven movies. The popular actors has expressed concern about being pigeonholed into his Jason Bourne character. If additional movies are produced with this character, that is what the public will remember him for. However, Matt Damon should be fine as long as he works on more great films. He has a right to be known as a great actor, not just “Jason Bourne”. Therefore, I can recognize where he is coming from on that point.

Dear readers, do not spoil it for me. However, feel free to leave your thoughts on Matt Damon, The Bourne Franchise, Previous Bourne films and relevant “Bourne” subjects. Would you go to see a fourth Bourne movie? I’m off to read a piece on female directors now and will return with information regarding that.
