New Movies Behind the scenes: Brooklyn's Finest

Richard Gere is among the cast of a new movie which is to be released in 2009 (or it's release will be announced in 2009) titled "Brooklyn's Finest". This movie is currently in production with lots of filming in New York. I found some cool behind the scenes content and it looks like they are working on something noticeable on this movie set.

Brooklyn's Finest tells different stories of a group of police officers who are all related to a particular crime scene in some way. According to one Cinemablend article, these cops are corrupted. This could make for an entertaining movie to watch. We shall find out next year, or whenever Brooklyn's Finest is released. Richard Gere is just one highlight of this movie worth noting. He will also be joined by Ethan Hawke and Don Cheadle, two actors who have been favorites among movie fans for years.

The movie poster for Brooklyn's Finest is appealing. It gives the impression of cover art for one dark film, which may actually be the case. The MTV logo has me concerned. Not that MTV always makes bad films or gets involved with ones that flop, but their idea of good entertainment is sometimes different than the quality of films that say....are nominated for Academy Awards or even Independent Spirit Awards. Still, this is a nice looking poster. The colors and design make me want to find out what this movie is about, which could turn into me actually buying a movie ticket when it is released in theaters.

The fact that there are three cop-like shadows shown like they are deep in an alley somewhere is quite suspicuous. Cheers to the designer who created the poster. Now, whether or not this will be the actual poster that is marketed to the masses once Brooklyn's Finest is completed....who knows? If it is, it just may be worthwhile to moviegoers. Famed actor Wesley Snipes was also reported to be in this movie. However, I found an article that stated he was going to play a role that is currenly occupied by Don Cheadle. So, is Wesley Snipes in Brooklyn's Finest or not? I guess we will have to find that out once more press is released on this movie.

It wouldn't be odd if Wesley Snipes was going to do the role and then Don Cheadle replaced him for this movie. It's kind of like when they started casting for that Notorious B.I.G. movie and considered Forrest Whitaker for the main role and then looked for someone else. It's just normal Hollywood stuff. How about this for some interesting behind-the-scenes information: The New York Post reported that a scene from Brookyln's Finest had to be cut because they had a parking issues with the city (NY, that is). That report seems to be a rumor though.

Now, this movie was not written by a famous Hollywood screenwriter who had years of experience and a dozen of produced films to brag about. Apparenltly, Brooklyn's Finest was a script written by a guy who worked at a tollbooth in New York. He entered it into a screenwriting competition with hopes that the prize money would help him to purchase a new car. Instead, the script put on the radar of a Warner Bros. Studio producer who was looking for someone to write a sequel to the 90's hit, New Jack City. Examining how this all went down, it now seems understandable how Wesley Snipes would be involved withBrooklyn's Finest because he was probably already on the casting list for that New Jack gangster sequel.

Movie Stats:
Brooklyn's Finest
Written By Michael C. Martin
Directed By Antoine Fuqua
Starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke (Possibly Wesley Snipes as well, or not)

Running On Empty

While I have planned on getting back into a nice posting routine for this blog, it has not been easy to do. I have made a list of posts that are just piling up as I write this and some are started while others aren't yet none are ever finished. Just when I set out to post something fresh today...

I sit down, browse through some movie listings, come back to the blog and have nothing to say. I recently checked out some stats for the Madlab Post and am both surprised and honored for all of you who have subscribed to this blog and all who visit and read the contend here. I thought that all I needed was a small vacation and then I thought that all I needed was to plan things out and set a blogging schedule. Well, none of that has seemed to work out as smoothly as I intended. Therefore, now I am thinking that maybe I should change my routine and blog at a different time of day or on certain days. I surely have a few things to post up here, but I am tired and want to take a nap.

Man, this is bothersome but anyway, I am just writing this to say that I know that you all are here and I will be back in a day or two.....with new posts and information on cool movies for you to check out. In the meantime, if there is something that you want to know about a movie, actor, making movies or the entertainment industry in general, leave a comment here with your suggestions. That would probably help me to get out of the tired phase and into an upbeat and more productive mood. You can also leave a comment about what you have enjoyed lately in television or in films and also what you have been annoyed by in television or films whether it was the actual movie or an actor or actress that has been annoying you lately.

Until we meet again, thanks for reading this blog. Make sure to check out information about D.B. Woodside's film "First." and ALWAYS keep up to date with the film festivals and small theaters in your area. Just like Circle Cinema closed in Los Angeles, more theaters could go the same route and that is not a good thing, so make sure to show your support.

So Far Away

This post has been a long time coming....quite a few weeks even. Thanks to all of you who read the Madlab Post and extra thanks to the subscribers of this blog. The last month has been less productive here as I try to re-evaluate where I am headed by figuring out where it is exactly that I want to go. I am working on formating a feature length script in plans to produce it sometime this year, lord willing. Also, I need to get off of my bum and try to see what's going to become of this short documentary that's been in limbo for far too long. Also, I need to figure out whether or not I have the time to devote to directing these two religious shorts or just stick a fork in it. When New Year's hit on Janurary 2008, no one couldn't tell me that this was not going to be my year. I had so many plans to be more productive and eventually more successful in many areas. Now, that seems like an ancient feeling of excitement stemming from one delusional look at what was ahead for the year of 2008.

Hollywood may seem far, but can I at least get a damn movie off of the ground (one that's more meaningful and preferably...feature length), in front of a larger audience and make more money with media, literature or art? I'm not reaching for hollywood. I'd be satisfied with a finished film that I can discuss more, an acceptance letter from a major film festival or something that keeps me out of the "average joe" world and closer to the filmmaking world. Most of those things however, must not affect the purpose of this blog which is to keep you all up to date on what's going on with the coolest independent films and events happening in our world.

To that respect, April should be an exciting month as the Madlab Post gets back on track with new King Dongs, Giveaways, Celebrity news and hot spots in the independent film community. Don't hesitate to leave a comment with more posts that you would like to see here. Do you want to find out about new movies so that you will not be bored over the summer? Do you want to find out how to get cast in a movie or tv show? Do you want to learn more about what celebrity actors are currently working on? What would YOU like to see more of on the Madlab Post?
