A Spike Lee Joint and Haiku on Control #GBE2

Control means several different things to me and here is a poem, movie quote and music video to reflect most of it all.

Here is a question to my future self in the form of a haiku about control:

Is it possible
to control your destiny
life is a burden

"Malcolm X" starring Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett features one of the most memorable movie quotes that come to mind during this week's GBE 2 topic of control.

[Witnessing Malcolm's control over a mob]
Captain Green: That's too much power for one man to have.

Captain Green's statement is understandable in a general sense because human beings who have power over other human beings often take advantage of this for their own gains or intentions, which tends to cause more harm than good because their guidance is not practiced for the betterment of the group as a whole. Now, if this is not the case, then one man having power over large groups of people may not be such a bad thing.

Since there is usually no way to determine whether a leader has your best interests in mind or not because some people in leadership positions are manipulative, it is best to gain as much knowledge and understanding as possible so that each of us can be in better positions to choose what we will and will not tolerate and also choose how we are to be treated by other human beings.

and now....

Enjoy the feeling of letting go of the control that others have on you and embrace the greatness that is...being in control of your actions, feelings, behavior...your life!

Janet, Ms. Jackson if you're nasty said it best.

Confusing Movie Plots #movietheater #onmytv

We’ve all probably watched a few movies in our lifetime that had us scratching our heads in utter confusion as to what the storyline was all about. That is the central focus of the topic for this week’s Monday Movie Meme, as Sandy at You’ve Gotta Read This has chosen themes for the entire month. Therefore, The Bumbles asks participants to share on their blog “movies that make you go hmmmmmmm,” so here are my picks for movies that have confusing movie plots.

Shutter Island
Monday Movie Meme,Movies

If you’ve seen this.....need I say any more? If you haven’t watched this Leonardo DiCaprio (who is the current King Dong, by the way) headed movie, then let me be the first to tell you that this movie has the ability to drive audiences crazy.....forget the loonies in the hospital.

Monday Movie Meme,Movies

The plot of “Shutter Island” seems so easy to follow and simple to understand since, based on the trailer and description, a U.S. Marshal (or is he?...yeah, that’s what I’m talking about) visits a hospital for the criminally insane to investigate the disappearance of a woman who allegedly murdered her kids. However, the plot of “Shutter Island” gets very strange as this movie progresses but not in a productive way. The ending does not make any sense and had me questioning whether certain scenes really occurred or not. Damn you Teddy Daniels!

The Sixth Sense
Monday Movie Meme,Movies

Some relatives and I went to a theater to check out this Bruce Willis flick that put M. Night Shyamalan on the map and gave officials in Philadelphia, PA a good marketing angle to try and attract visitors to the area. “The Sixth Sense” has confusing written all over it....so much so that my relatives got into an argument (or rather, very passionate disagreement) about the plot while we were all in the movie theater parking lot after this film ended.

Monday Movie Meme,Movies

They decided to agree to return to the theater the next day (or maybe a few days later, I don’t remember those specifics, as I was a kid) and watch the movie again so they can get the answers to their questions and settle their disagreement about certain plot points in “The Sixth Sense.”

These are movies that made me go “hmmmm...” and I plan to add one more in the next few days, so make sure you come back and read this post again later this week.

What movies made YOU go “hmmmm” ?

The Day of Leonardo DiCaprio

King Dong,Actors,Movies

By a majority vote of three to one and the fact that economist Robert Reich seems to be relatively unknown among those of us who follow the entertainment industry, I am proud to present actor Leonardo DiCaprio with the King Dong crown for the month of June 2011.

Thanks to Anyes at Far away in the sunshine, Tara at Two Hands and a Roadmap, Alana at Writercize and Joyce Lansky at Catch My Words for participating in the selection of a new male celebrity to feature in my King Dong series, each weekend during this month.

Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to be playing a villian in director Quentin Taratino’s upcoming film, “Django Unchained,” about a slave who seeks revenge on his master. It is said to be one of DiCaprio’s most evil roles to date, as he would play a cruel slave owner who stages deadly fights for fun on his plantation. This is not the first time Tarantino considered DiCaprio for a role in one of his films. Leonardo DiCaprio was once likely to be chosen as a Nazi named Colonel Lander whose nickname is The Jew Hunter in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards.”

If DiCaprio does get the “Django Unchained” role, it would probably be difficult to watch him play a cruel character but the role may add an edge to the perception of this beloved actor in a way that fans enjoy. If Forrest Whitaker can pull off “Last King of Scotland,” than Leonardo DiCaprio could surely be convincing in an evil role while also continuing to be a fan favorite.

Would a Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino collaboration make for a great film?
