Monday Movie Meme – A Match Made in Hell

Happy Veteran’s Day! We’re back to our regularly scheduled Monday Movie Meme program, after a brief illness caused me to be out of commission last week. Years ago, I made a one-minute short comedy film about a woman whose boyfriend tests her patience when all she wants is some *ahem* extra special birthday attention.

In preparation for my re-posting of that movie on this blog, the scene has me thinking about dysfunctional couples; which brings us to the theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme: A Match Made in Hell.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring dysfunctional couples. It is just a matter of time before their relationship takes a turn for the worse. Or, they surprisingly operate well together despite you shaking your head wondering how these pairings came to be in the first place. Here are my selections for this week’s A Match Made in Hell meme.

Lighten Up

The fun loving girlfriend is all about enjoying the moment but her boyfriend is an egotistical and disgruntled employee who doesn’t know how to chill. I will be posting this movie – which I wrote and directed -- soon for your viewing pleasure.

The Best Man

I have to give props to this classic wedding movie starring Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut and many other talents – especially since “The Best Man Holiday” opens this weekend.

One of the groomsmen is dating an uptight woman who tries to control him, which reminds me of…

The Hangover

A dentist named Stu is in a long-term relationship with one of the most unpleasant, controlling girlfriends that I’ve ever seen in a movie.

Seems like Stu and the guy from “The Best Man” have something in common, especially since their friends are not that fond of their significant others.

Leaving Las Vegas

All arguments about everybody needing somebody aside, I doubt that the pair in this romantic drama starring Nicholas Cage comes to mind when people think of couples who are meant for each other. If the relationship between the suicidal drunken screenwriter and his hooker girlfriend isn’t dysfunctional, I don’t know what is.

Who are some of the most dysfunctional couples you’ve ever seen in a movie?

Monday Movie Meme - The Worst Offenders in Upper Management

In honor of Labor Day, the theme for this week’s Monday Movie Meme is inspired by a Washington Post article I read about American workforce statistics. One of the various charts displayed in this article shows the rates of employee engagement among the U.S. working population over the last decade, highlighting a Gallup survey showing that only one in five workers describe themselves as “actively engaged” in their jobs.

Having worked in different retail and office environments myself, I believe that the level of care that employees have for their job performance is oftentimes (though not always) a reflection of the leadership available to them. As such, I wonder how many people among the disengaged labor force are less interested in their jobs because they are working with supervisors or bosses who cause staff to dread coming in, cain’t wait until quitting time and frequently considers calling out sick. That, my lovelies, brings us to the focus of this week’s Monday Movie Meme: People with Poor Upper Management Skills aka The Worst Bosses Ever.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring bad examples of upper management in the workplace. The job supervisors in these films cause poor morale among their employees and are long overdue for either an attitude adjustment, sensitivity training, jail time or a new position -- possibly in another field or at a different company. Here are my selections for this week’s The Worst Bosses Ever theme.

Horrible Bosses

A dentist sexually harasses her assistant and blackmails him, in this comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and some other amusing peeps. Talk about, an uncomfortable workplace! No wonder why the poor assistant isn’t exactly anxious to perform at his best.

The Firm

As if practicing law isn’t hard enough, try maintaining your composure at work after realizing the senior partners at the company that once wooed you with lavish perks are now trying to kill you.

Set It Off

Luther, the owner/manager of a janitorial company, constantly belittles, yells at and insults his employees in this crime drama starring Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett, Vivica Fox and Kimberly Elise.

If he’d stop addressing them as “you Bitches” and start calling them by their names and treating them like human beings, they just might put more effort into separating the recyclables from the garbage, after all.

Happy Labor Day, guys and gals!

What movies have YOU watched that feature the worst people to ever have a position in upper management?

The Devil Made Me Do It #movie #mondays #ahauntedhouse

Just in time for Halloween, comedic actor Marlon Wayans is back on the scene with a trailer from his new movie called “A Haunted House” -- opening on January 11, 2013. This film is about a young couple who moves into their dream house and quickly learns that they are not alone. The main character Malcolm, played by Wayans, realized that his house isn’t haunted -- it’s his girlfriend who is possessed by a demon.

Through a parody of “found footage” movies including “Paranormal Activity” and “The Devil Inside,” Malcolm seeks help from a priest and modern-day ghostbusters to conquer these evil spirits so they won’t ruin his relationship. The movie trailer looks silly but I haven’t watched most, if not any of the movies that Marlon Wayans is spoofing in “A Haunted House,” so I might be out of the loop on how funny the film could really be.

Still, I don’t need to watch “Paranormal Activity” to make this week’s Monday Movie Meme loosely based on this upcoming satirical horror picture: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Share on your blog or in the comments section, movies featuring people who are possessed or believed to have been taken over by evil spirits. Here are my selections is my selection for this week’s The Devil Made Me Do It theme.

The Amityville Horror

I’m referring to the Andrew Douglas remake starring Ryan Reynolds, not the one from the 70s.  It’s kinda creepy how this film shows an arguably normal person become possessed over time. To some viewers “The Amityville Horror” movie could also serve as a reminder that nothing good comes of cults. I’m just sayin’....

What movies have YOU watched featuring people who are possessed?

Have you seen the movie trailer for “A Haunted House?”
